It's the GIMP, a free open-source image editor with almost all the power of the $650 Adobe Photoshop. This version, called the GIMPshop, is a re-write of the original GIMP that makes it work and look more like Photoshop, so it's easier to switch between the two.
This is an early, early beta (testing) version, but it's built on reliable code and all seems to be working well. Just download and run the setup program, and find the GIMPshop icon it places on your desktop to start using it.
Although we still think Adobe's Photoshop Elements 3 including Adobe Album is a great way to edit and organize your photographs, and probably worth your money (especially when bundled with Adobe Premier Elements) -- the GIMPshop combined with Google's free Picasa is a very good combo alternative, allowing you to save up money for that hybrid automobile you're wanting to buy.
